Best ANABOLIC Exercises To Grow Muscle

You’ve heard me talk about balancing the Autonomic
Nervous System, to activate an anabolic response which
helps the body grow stronger.

If you’re not sure what I am talking about, here is a
short lesson for you.

Your nervous system is broken down into two parts.

First is your central nervous system (CNS) that includes
your brain and spinal chord.

Next is your peripheral nervous system (PNS) that
includes the nerve fibers that connect all parts
of the body to the central nervous system.

The branch of the the PNS that we are interested in
is called the Autonomic Branch of the nervous system.

As you can see in the chart above, the ANS can be
stimulated Sympathetically or Para-sympathetically.

When we stimulate the Sympathetic (SNS) branch we
cause a stress response in the body.

This is when we get “psyched up” to lift weights or
in competition. The SNS helps the body produce energy
hormones like adrenaline and cortisol.

When we stimulate the Parasympathetic (PNS) branch
we cause a rest and recover response in the body.

This is when we relax, breathe deeply, eat good food
and sleep. The PNS helps the body produce building
hormones like testosterone and growth hormone.

When we live in a natural balance the two branches will
be stimulated equally thus allowing the natural cycle of
breakdown (catabolic) and build-up (anabolic).

The problem is that in modern society 99% of us are
overly stimulated in a sympathetic manner. Basically,
we’re all stressed out!

If you drink coffee, don’t sleep enough, have stress at
school, work, family or within a relationship…

…you can bet that you are OVERLY sympathetic, thus

Meaning, that building muscle and burning fat is going
to be much harder for you than if you were more
parasympathetic or ANABOLIC.

correct this imbalance in order to create a more anabolic
environment in our bodies?”

The simple answer is… reduce stress.

And in my experience, the best way to reduce stress is
